Day three introduces mobile surveillance: following a subject in a vehicle from another vehicle. This is where the pace of the course accelerates most dramatically. Operating through 30, 40, 50 and 60 mph zones, navigating junctions and changing road layouts, maintaining appropriate distance whilst not losing sight of the subject — the demands are considerable, and the margin for poor decision-making narrows accordingly. Day four integrates all three disciplines. Delegates work through combined scenarios involving foot, public transport and mobile surveillance, often transitioning between methods mid-operation. Preventing skill fade — the tendency to lose proficiency in earlier techniques as new ones are introduced — is a deliberate priority at this stage.
Day five is the culminating exercise, in which everything learned across the preceding four days is applied to a complete operational scenario. Crucially, however, the final exercise does not carry sole weight in the assessment. Delegates are evaluated continuously throughout the full five days, meaning that performance is judged on a holistic basis rather than a single high-pressure moment. By the end of day four, delegates should have a clear, honest understanding of whether they have reached the required standard — a considerably fairer and more accurate measure than relying on one final test alone.
